Chapter One · The Continent

Every arabica bean on earth began here.

Coffee grows in a green band around the equator, but it was born in one place: the highlands of Ethiopia. Wild arabica still grows in its mountain forests, exactly where the story of every cafe on earth began.

Chapter Three · The Birthplace Belt

Coffee never left home. It multiplied.

Africa grows the continent’s boldest cups within reach of where it all began. Ethiopia leads; eight neighbors answer. Choose one on the map, or start below.

Every origin on this sheet grows a tree whose ancestors left Ethiopia first. Escape brings you back.

Chapter Four · The Coffee Belt

One green ribbon around the earth.

Nearly all coffee grows between the tropics, and every stop on this sheet traces back to one red outline. Choose a region on the map, or start below.

Africa has its own chapter, and Ethiopia is always one tap from home: its outline works on every sheet.

Chapter Five · The Coffee Road

One bean walked out of Ethiopia and circled the earth.

Follow it stop by stop: goatherds and monks, smugglers and sailors, a shared water ration and a farewell bouquet. Choose a stop on the map, or walk the road in order below.

The road ends where it began: stop 08 brings the bean home to Ethiopia.
